If, on the other hand, you prefer summer activities, this area offers numerous trails that wind through the surrounding mountains, offering breathtaking views of the valley below. You can choose from easier trails for families or more challenging sections for experienced hikers.

Starting in Bormio, take the gondola to Bormio 2000, where trails S543 and S543.1 begin, crossing the ski slopes and leading to La Rocca. The Sobretta Mountains trek continues to Sobrettina and then descends to the Sobretta di Sotto Mountains, passing through a spruce forest and offering views of Valfurva. The route continues through several locations before reaching a steep trail, S540, that leads to Feleit and then back to Bormio.

Ascent to Bormio 2000

The hike from Bormio 2000 to Bormio is an easy and short hiking route, ideal for beginners. The route, just over 5 km long, is entirely downhill and can be completed in about two hours. It starts at Bormio 2000, descending along the Genziana trail on the S540.3 and S540 dirt road. Before reaching Ciuk, turn right onto the S576 trail that enters the forest and leads to Borminella. From here, turn left onto path S522 and after 200 m turn right onto path S540, which leads to Bormio.

The walk to Santa Cater ina begins in Bormio 2000, where you follow trail S543 through a pine forest to the Baita Pozzo dell'Acqua. Continue to a junction, then follow trail S543.2 downhill to the Sobretta Mountains. From here, continue on trail S518 to Sobretta di Sotto and then turn right on trail S522 to reach Santa Caterina Valfurva near the bus station.

The route from Bormio 2000 to Bormio 3000 on foot begins by crossing a dirt road with a slight incline, passing the Baita del Pastore (Shepherd's Hut) and the Sobretta Valley. You reach Bocca di Profa and Bei Laghetti, with an extraordinary blue lake. The route varies between easy (T1), moderate (T2) and challenging sections only towards the end (T3), culminating at the Bormio 3000 hut on the Cima Bianca. For the return, you can use the cable car to reach Bormio 2000 again.

 

How to get to Bormio 2000?

The road to Bormio 2000 is open year-round and accessible to all types of vehicles without any restrictions.

During the summer season, it is not mandatory to have winter tires, but it is advisable to have snow chains on board, especially if you expect to face adverse weather conditions.

Unfortunately, there is no direct public transportation service to reach Bormio 2000.

Alternatively, you have the option of reaching Bormio 2000 via the 8-passenger gondola lift that departs directly from the town of Bormio.

How much does it cost to go up to Bormio 2000?

Regarding ticket costs for the summer season, the full ticket price for the gondola ride from Bormio to Bormio 2000 is 13 euros (17 euros for a round trip ticket). For children up to 7 years old, reduced fares are available, while dogs and bicycles can ride for free.

As for the winter season, ski pass prices start at a minimum of 29 euros for 4 hours for the 2023/2024 season.

Summer gondola operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily until Sunday, September 10, 2023. Thereafter, until September 24, opening will be limited to weekends. For the next winter season, however, the lift will be open daily from December 1, 2023 to April 7, 2024 from 8:30 am to 4:45 pm.
