Gulf of Asinara: things to do from Asinara Island to Castelsardo

The Gulf of Asinara is located in the northern part of Sardinia and stretches from Castelsardo to the Asinara Island, including Porto Torres and Stintino.
It encompasses about 90 km of coastline and with its area of 500 km2 è the second largest gulf in Sardinia.

1. Asinara National Park
The Island of Asinara è one of the most precious jewels of Sardinia and for this è considered National Park and Marine Protected Area since 1997.
There are several ways to visit the'island such as boat tours, jeep tours, bicycle tours, electric car tours and much more.
È it is possible to get to the island by sea thanks to organized boat trips or via the ferries that leave from Stintino and Porto Torres.
The island is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Sardinia, such as Cala d'Arena and Cala Sant'Andrea, but many of these cannot be visited due to restrictions of the Marine Area.
2. Stintino
Stintino è famous for its long white sandy beaches and crystal clear sea such as the Pelosa Beach and the Spiaggia delle Saline.
È the closest town to Asinara and that is precisely why ferries leave from its port to reach the island in about 20 minutes. You could also set sail to visit Asinara with an organized boat excursion.
Along the coast, around Stintino there are several towers coastal houses that date back to the 16° century characteristic of the area and all of Sardinia. We recommend a visit to the Torre delle Saline and the Torre del Falcone.
In Stintino, we also suggest you visit the Museum of the Tonnara and the Nuraghe of Unia.
3. La Pelosa Beach
La Pelosa è one of the most famous beaches in Sardinia and a destination for many travelers from all over the world every year.
Her beauty è comparable with few other beaches in the world and that is why we suggest you visit it if you are in the Gulf of Asinara.
È a closed-number beach and to access it è you need to make a reservation online. Despite being a beach with a small size, its particular shape allows it to accommodate up to 1500 people every day.
During the high season, the available places run out quickly, so you might opt for a'boat trip that will allow you to see it by sea.
4. The Saline Beach
The Beach le Saline is located between Stintino and Porto Torres and è features white sand and clear water stretching almost 10 km in length.
This beach è so long that it includes within it other beaches such as Pazzona Beach, Ezzi Mannu Beach and Stagno di Pilo Beach.

5. Porto Torres
Porto Torres is located exactly in the center of the Gulf of Asinara and is known for its importance at the port level, but also at the historical level.

In fact, you can visit the Castello dei Doria, dating back to 1102 AD. This castle dominates the village and houses the Museum of Mediterranean Interweaving. The cost of admission starts from 5€ per person.
