1. Useful information
Porto Ferro Beach is quite extensive, with about 1.2 km in length and can accommodate a large number of visitors due to the wide spaces available.
The access is free, with no closed number nor need for reservation. Is also available a free and unpaved parking lot, in the immediate vicinity of the beach entrance.
There are several services on site, including eateries and kiosks, which also offer sunbed and umbrella rentals.
2. How to get to the beach
To reach Porto Ferro by car, follow the SP55 from Alghero or the SP42 from Sassari, then take the SP117 and follow the signs to the beach. The trip, takes about 30 minutes in either case.
The beach is easily accessible on foot from the parking lot, via paths immersed in the pine forest.
Alternatively, it is also possible to get there by extra-urban public transport from Alghero, but we do not recommend this option as the journey time is about 1 hour.
3. Curiosities
The bay of Porto Ferro è is characterized by the presence of 3 lookout towers built in the 17th century by the Spanish to defend the coast from Saracen raids.
These are the Bantine Sale Tower(also known as Torre Mozza), located to the south, and the White and Negra towers (or Airadu Tower), which are located instead on the north side of the bay.
4. Tips
Port Iron Beach, despite its large size, tends to crowdespecially in the summer months and on weekends.
To easily find space both on the beach and in the free parking lot, it is recommended to arrive in the first half of the morning.
Since the beach faces west, we recommend that you stop to see the sunset, as itè è a unique sight.
5. Activities in the area
From the northern end of the beach starts a very short path that in a few minutes will take you to the Torre Negra. From here you will have a panoramic view of the beach and the surrounding nature.
The Porto Ferro Beach è often windy and for that reason ideal for doing surfing or kite surfing rental on site.
To explore the coast, we suggest you book an'organized boat trip departing from Alghero. If you want, however, to go further north, you could take an excursion to the National Park of Asinara.
Among the beaches in the area we recommend you visit the Cala dell'Argentiera, Mugoni Beach, the Lazzaretto Beach and delle Bombarde.
