The crotto was originally the cellar of Chiavenna houses, built as a natural refrigerator for curing cold meats and cheeses thanks to Sorèl, a current of fresh air from underground.

The crotto, as a tavern, serves traditional local foods and consists of three spaces: the dining room, the outdoor area with stone tables and the wine cellar.

The crotti are natural sinkholes that penetrate within the remains of ancient landslides detached in the distant past from the valley slopes.
