Weekend in Livigno: What to Do in 3 Days in Summer

13 September 20245 minutes read

In summer, Livigno is a particularly popular destination for those who want to escape the heat of the city and take refuge in the mountains, to breathe in the fresh air and regenerate body and mind surrounded by unspoiled nature

Friday: trekking on the scenic trails of the Nera Valley

After a long week of work, a hike among the beautiful scenery of the Stelvio National Park is the right activity to relieve stress. Livigno offers plenty of trails, varying in length and difficulty and suitable for everyone: from those who want to relax in nature to those who want to test their physical endurance.

If you are looking for an easy and picturesque trail, we recommend the Val Nera and its waterfall: starting from the P8 parking lot, on the side of the road there is a large meadow with a path that leads to the Malga Alpe Vago hut right at the beginning of the valley; from here, the dirt road continues to the Alpe Vago where the actual trail begins and in about 2 hours reaches the waterfall.

The trails form a kind of loop that runs along both sides of the river; remember your camera for spectacular photos on the small Tibetan bridge that you will have to cross to get from one bank to the other!

The total distance of the hike is about 6 kilometers, with a total elevation gain of 200 meters. It is an easy and not too long walk, perfect for those who, leaving home in the morning, arrive in Livigno in the early afternoon and want to immediately immerse themselves in the views, nature and fresh air.

If, on the other hand, you are already in the village, choosing to leave early in the morning, even before 9 a.m., will help you find fewer people on the trail and, most importantly, give you a chance to spot cows, horses, donkeys and chamois in their natural environment.

Saturday: carriage ride and guided tour of the Livigno brewery

Saturday will be your first real day of vacation: take it easy, relax and enjoy this time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

After a hearty breakfast with typical mountain products such as alpine butter and homemade jams, you can enjoy the views of Livigno and the surrounding mountains on a horse-drawn carriage ride through the woods and breathe in the mountain air.

The walk takes 30-40 minutes and is suitable for everyone: couples, families with children and even groups of friends, considering that each carriage can carry up to 7 guests.

In the afternoon, for a different experience and to fully appreciate the delicacies of typical mountain cuisine, it is possible to visit the Livigno brewery for a tour and dinner with a tasting menu.

The visit begins with a quick introduction to Europe's highest brewery, at an elevation of an impressive 1,816 meters, and continues inside the production area, where it is possible to admire the 10-hl Kaspar Schulz brewing room and all the areas where the various processing steps leading from raw material to the final product take place, such as mashing, hopping, whirlpooling and unloading of the spent grain that will later be used as feed for livestock.

In the mountains, every product is precious and nothing is wasted.

At the end of the tour you can taste the varieties of beers produced within the plant and enjoy a dinner of Italian-Bavarian specialties.

Sunday: mountain walk with alpacas and relaxation by the lake

If you are looking for a truly unique experience during your weekend in Livigno, you cannot miss the chance to take an unforgettable llama and alpaca walk.

These fascinating animals will lead you through scenic trails and mountain landscapes, creating the perfect combination of adventure and gentle tranquility.

Llamas and alpacas are native to the mountains of South America and among the mountains of Lombardy they have found a favorable climate; during this walk, you will have the opportunity to interact with these curious and friendly animals, learning more about their nature and characteristics.

It will be a fun and educational experience for both children and adults.

To end the day, you cannot miss a moment of relaxation along the shores of Livigno Lake where you can rest on a deck chair, perhaps reading a good book, or for the more active, SUP and kayaks are available for rent.

Before you leave, don't forget to make the most of the feature that makes Livigno a shopper's paradise: in fact, the town is located in a non-customs area where no VAT is charged on prices and you can shop at a discount compared to the rest of Italy.

The only caution is to always consult the tables with the duty-free allowances: any person can bring outside the duty-free zone purchases that respect certain value and quantity limits for items such as alcohol or tobacco products.

Information about these limitations is always available on the Livigno municipality website and at the tourism office, directly in the village. If you are in doubt, you can always ask for clarification inside the stores as well.

Livigno is not only a skier's paradise but also offers opportunities for all tastes in the summer. Be sure to plan your itinerary in advance to make the most of every moment of this unforgettable weekend of alpine adventure.

So, wait no longer, get ready for a dream weekend in Livigno and discover all that this fascinating mountain resort has to offer!
